Russian media has claimed that Russian forces have started receiving S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft missile system and soon an export version for customers like India might be cleared for sale, that will supplement the existing S-400 system.
India is set to get the third squadron of the S-400 system early next month and Russia is keen on having India as its launch customer of S-500.
The radar complex allows the S-500 to detect ballistic missiles at 2000 kilometres and Airborne targets at 800 kilometres and is capable of tracking up to 20 ballistic missiles and can intercept up to 10 ballistic targets in rapid succession.
The S-500 has a proven airborne engagement range of 500 kilometres and it will give an edge to the Indian Armed Forces as the S-500 can even target Hypersonic missiles.
