The Indian Navy has taken a significant stride towards achieving self-reliance in munitions by conducting certification tests for an indigenous explosive developed by Solar Industries. Manufactured by M/s Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), a subsidiary of Solar Industries based in Nagpur, the formulation known as SEBEX-2 aims to significantly augment the destructive power of weapons.
SEBEX-2, manufactured by Solar Industries, is reported to deliver a blast effect 2.01 times more potent than standard TNT (Trinitrotoluene). The potency of explosives is often measured in terms of TNT equivalence, where a higher TNT equivalence indicates greater destructive capability. For instance, conventional explosives like DENTEX/TORPEX typically have a TNT equivalence of 1.25-1.30.
Solar Industries officials emphasized that SEBEX-2 represents a leap in firepower and explosive efficiency. They showcased a comparative test video demonstrating SEBEX-2’s superior performance compared to conventional TNT explosions. The company views these new formulations as a potential ‘game changer’ for armed forces due to their enhanced explosive effects.
This development marks a significant stride towards bolstering India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and achieving self-sufficiency. The adoption of SEBEX-2 is expected to elevate the potency and effectiveness of India’s weaponry and ammunition, thereby reinforcing national security interests.
