GalaxEye, a Bangalore-based space start-up, has teamed up with drone manufacturing company ideaForge to build a specialized radar system tailored for military applications. This radar, known as the UAV FOPEN Radar (Foliage Penetration Radar), possesses the unique capability to penetrate dense foliage and navigate through fog, facilitating seamless monitoring during challenging operational situations.
ideaForge has recently introduced the integration of third-party payloads into its UAV platforms, thereby expanding the range of payload options available to its customers and offering more versatile solutions.
The UAV FOPEN Radar is designed to address the specific requirements of military operations involving the penetration of dense vegetation, ensuring uninterrupted surveillance even in the face of obstacles.
“Through this partnership, ideaForge will leverage its expertise in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and seamlessly integrate it with GalaxEye’s cutting-edge Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology,” stated GalaxEye.
This radar technology has long been a critical need for security forces, enabling them to effectively observe environments obscured by foliage and fog.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with GalaxEye in the development of advanced aerial surveillance and mapping solutions that will significantly enhance our security forces’ capabilities and support their mission to safeguard the nation against present and future threats,” remarked Ankit Mehta, CEO of ideaForge.
This technology promises to significantly improve the ability to detect illicit activities, monitor unauthorized movement, conduct counterinsurgency operations, and track various illegal activities.
The Foliage Penetrating UAV Radar system is designed to overcome barriers such as clouds, fog, smoke, mist, camouflage nets, and dense tree-canopy foliage that often hinder surveillance operations.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) also encompasses the creation of a high-resolution 3D imaging foliage-penetrating radar.
When installed on a UAV, this radar will serve as an all-weather surveillance payload capable of identifying objects concealed by foliage or camouflage, providing real-time tactical ground imagery.
“In today’s context, technology has primarily focused on monitoring capabilities. By incorporating this innovative dimension into our SAR technology, in partnership with ideaForge’s expertise, we will equip security agencies with unparalleled advantages in challenging operational scenarios, requiring minimal effort,” said Suyash Singh, Co-founder and CEO of GalaxEye.
