India’s premier military-grade spy satellite, designed by TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in partnership with Satellogic, is scheduled to be launched into orbit by SpaceX soon. This spy satellite has a powerful spatial resolution of 0.5 metres, permitting it to capture minute details of the Earth from space. It will play a major role in monitoring infrastructure and gathering intelligence on military targets.
As opposed to earlier situations where India had to provide exact coordinates and timings of monitoring to overseas vendors, this satellite will have its ground control center in India. This protects the military’s sensitive information. The ground control center to be located in Bengaluru will control the satellite’s path and process its images.
The satellite is being transported to Florida, where it is expected to be launched by April onboard a SpaceX rocket. This launch is a major landmark in India’s space ventures, reflecting the rising capability of the country in space technology. The Bangaluru plant, with the ability to produce 25 low-earth orbit satellites per year, showcases India’s thrust in the area of space technology.
The satellite will equally boost India’s intelligence capacities, including border surveillance and enemy movement tracking. This is a big leap for India, as it sees the partnership of private sector innovation with the latest space technology in the space sector.
