Taipei: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between India and Taiwan on Friday, showing a willingness to send migrant labor from India to Taiwan as disclosed by the Ministry of Labour. The press release was made public by a Taiwanese daily newspaper, CNA.
Before the formal announcement on the policy is made, both sides will meet to finalize the points, the ministry said in the statement released on Friday. The MOU states that Taiwan shall have the authority to determine the number of Indian migrant workers and sectors in which they can be employed on an individual basis, according to the ministry.
Taiwan’s Ambassador to India Baushuan Ger and Foreign Secretary of India Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav have virtually signed its prepared documents. The Government of India is encouraging dealings with Taiwan in trade, investment, tourism, culture, education, and people-to-people engagement. The plan is not only based on common interests but also gives Indian labor employed overseas the chance to take part.
The ministry declared that the implementation of the plan will commence with the launch of a small-scale trial if both parties agree on its implementation. Those who meet the minimum educational requirement, or who speak English well, will have the chance to be part of the trial.
The workers should have qualifications and be trained under the legislation that both Indians and Taiwan adhere to, according to the ministry.
Last year in Taipei a small-scale protest took place after a cabinet member (wishing to remain anonymous) mentioned that Taiwan would not be receiving 100,000 Indian migrant workers, regarding a previous report made by various news agencies.
