On June 07, 2023, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) accomplished a momentous feat with the triumphant flight-testing of the cutting-edge Agni Prime Ballistic Missile. The launch took place from the picturesque Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, situated off the coast of Odisha. The successful flight test effectively demonstrated the fulfillment of all predetermined objectives.
Distinguished by its distinction as the first-ever pre-induction night launch conducted by users, this landmark event follows three previous developmental trials of the missile, conclusively validating the unwavering accuracy and reliability of the system. To ensure meticulous data acquisition throughout the missile’s trajectory, a comprehensive array of range instrumentation, including radar, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems, were strategically deployed at various locations. Notably, two down-range ships were stationed at the terminal point to capture comprehensive flight data.
The historic flight test bore witness to the presence of esteemed officials from both DRDO and the Strategic Forces Command, who observed the momentous achievement firsthand. This resounding success now paves the way for the formal induction of the Agni Prime missile into the esteemed ranks of the Armed Forces.
In light of this remarkable accomplishment, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended heartfelt congratulations to the DRDO and the Armed Forces, acknowledging their extraordinary achievement and applauding the flawless performance of the Agni Prime New Generation Ballistic Missile.
Furthermore, the Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, Dr. Samir V Kamat, expressed profound appreciation for the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts invested by the teams from DRDO laboratories and the users involved in executing the test launch.
